2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and The Tree of Life (2011): Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite Grace of Nature

I watch 2001: A Space Odyssey and Tree of Life together to compare and contrast the films and how they may be read together.

Capsule Collection: Summer/Fall 2011 Viewing, < 2011 Part 1

Beginning to dig myself out of my screening log hole with the first batch of five capsule reviews for films I’ve seen since my last blog entry. First up are five films from prior to 2011.

Tree of Life (2011): 2011: A (Natural) Grace Odyssey

Terrence Malick’s fifth film in 38 years aims no lower than to explicate the connection between the particular of finite life and the eternal. A meditation on creation and death, their inseparability and entanglement with nature and grace, articulated by seemingly intensely personal biographical details and a plesiosaur. Yes, there are dinosaurs.

Screening Log #11: Cleaning Out the Projection Room (part 1)
